Hello Etsy shoppers. For the past 34 years, I have been an academic. I teach at the college level and have loved working with my students and colleagues. I have traveled a lot for my job and have quite an extensive collection of jewelry from all over the world. I love all types of shiny things, but I am always interested in buying items made by local artists, so I seek out shops that feature them. I had no idea that my many years of collecting would someday inspire me to make my own jewelry, but here I am, opening an Etsy shop at the urging of my friends and family, who have been the recipients of many of my handmade pieces.
It all started with my very good friend Eugenia. I wanted to make a necklace for her for Christmas and just happened to have an owl pendant I thought she would like. That was my first Wise Woman necklace. When I realized it was Christmas, and that I was privileged to have many wise women in my life, I began making necklaces for them. I'm still working on the project because I have so many wonderful women in my life.
When I create something, I start with a pendant, think of the person for whom I am designing, and find great pleasure creating something unique for that person. When I am working, the necklace often takes over and tells me what length or style it will be. I never argue with that process. Now that I am making pieces to display on Etsy, I have modified that process by simply thinking of the kind of person I am creating for, what materials I want to use, and that works too! If you are interested in having something custom made for you, let me know and we can talk about your interests and preferences.
I should add that I grew up in San Francisco in the 1960's, so I come by my delight in Hippie Chick items honestly.
I hope you like my work and will come back often to see how I have evolved as a designer. Thank you for visiting, and I hope to see you back soon!
